Zazen (seated meditation) begins at 9:00 a.m. in 20 minute intervals followed by 10 minute kinhin (walking meditation). Note that meditators may choose to remain seated during kinhin for an extended meditation period.
We break for potluck lunch close to noon and resume zazen at 1:00 pm. Because lunch is a continuation of this day’s meditation practice, we enjoy each other’s company in as much silence as possible and do not hold social conversations during this hour.
You are welcome to join at any time. If you choose to join while zazen is in progress please do so as quietly as possible. If you choose to end your practice early please leave during kinhin. Two gong sounds signal the beginning of kinhin, one bright bell sound signals the end of kinhin.
If you are new to zazen please plan your first visit for Thursday at 6:30 p.m. This will give us time for an introduction to silent meditation and to orient you with the Zendo. We generally do not have the capacity to provide zazen instruction during weekend meditation sessions.
We have some zafus (round cushions) available, or you may want to bring your own. There are also chairs and a few meditation benches if you prefer them.
There are no costs for participating though donations are welcomed. Great Wind Zendo is a 501(c)(3) organization and contributions are tax deductible.
